DNV-GL In-Service Inspection Programme Five-yearly Survey

We were asked to carry out a five-yearly class survey on a windfarm installation jack-up vessel based in Denmark. The scope of the project included leg and hull structural inspections, NDT and visual inspections of spud cans, nodes, braces and chord connections. We also needed to inspect jacking house primary members 1-6 and the hull transverse girth belt.

The solution

We chose to use rope access equipment and NDT survey equipment. Rope access allows our teams to access sites without the requirement for expensive staging and scaffolding, delivering significant cost and time savings to our clients.

In addition to the original scope of inspection work, multiple maintenance and repairs identified during the survey were also closed out. Additional work, identified by the client’s site management team were also completed, once it was clear that the our team had the competencies required to perform the additional tasks.

The additional work included fabric maintenance remedial repairs, pressure piping repairs and additional coating repairs.

The result

Putting in place agreed Covid-19 measures in line with the Texo risk assessments, we were able to carry out both the original project scope and the additional inspections safely and in less time than traditional surveys, helping the client to save both time and money.

Testimonial

“ We have seen varied performance and safety culture from other rope access teams, but this team and all our experiences with TEXO have been very positive. They liaised well with DVNV GL and completed the work scope safely and on time. I am grateful for the manner this team responded to our Covid-19 control measures.”
